About Me

My name is Lourenço de Azevedo

I am a Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture therapist — a specialty recognized by the Portuguese State on the same register as other non-conventional therapies — a certified Therapeutic Chi Kung instructor for over 25 years, and an instructor of Oxygen Advantage®, a functional breathing method with applications ranging from emotional regulation to high-performance sports. I founded Regenerar and, more recently, breath.pt.

But before becoming a therapist, I was a child who couldn’t breathe.

I had asthma from eight months old. For 27 years, the inhaler was my constant companion — in my pocket, in my backpack, on my bedside table. My mother, when she didn’t know what else to do, would take me to the car in the middle of the night and drive me close to the sea. To see if the air could do what medication couldn’t.

At 27, during a difficult time in my life, I received a leaflet about a Chinese medicine course. Five years, five thousand hours, two months of internship in China. Everyone told me to wait. I enrolled.

It was on that journey that I found Therapeutic Chi Kung. In just over a month of practice, I stopped using the inhaler. That was in 1998. I’ve never needed it again.

Over more than two decades of clinical practice, I realized something I now consider fundamental.

Of all I learned — nutrition, movement, posture, habits, natural cycles — there is one factor that repeatedly appears as the missing link. Not because it is the most dramatic or complex, but precisely because it is the most silent.

Breathing.

We breathe about 22 thousand times a day. And most of those times, we breathe in a way that the nervous system interprets as stress — through the mouth, chest breathing, too fast. Without anyone ever telling us there was another way.

It’s not lack of will. It’s lack of information — and practice.

breath.pt was born from this realization. To make accessible what, in my experience, changes the most with the least: breathing functionally, every day, anywhere.

It’s the most portable part of what I do. And it’s, perhaps, the smartest place to start.

You can start now, no commitment, with five minutes of coherent breathing at breath.pt/respirar.
